The Genesis of Polin Sans Typeface: A Multicultural Journey
For years, I've pondered over crafting a type family that delves into the modernist aesthetic, akin to Władysław Strzemiński's "a.r." alphabet, intertwined with the multiscript milieu of pre-war Warsaw. Thus, the seed of Polin Sans germinated. Delving into geometric Cyrillic variants, I stumbled upon "Towards an open layout: A letter to Volodya Yefimov," where circular forms, reminiscent of Bulgarian Cyrillic, harmonized with the classical version, enriching the reading experience. Simultaneously, while engrossed in typoteka.pl, the allure of Jaffa, a Hebrew typeface by Idźkowski & Sk-a, akin to "a.r." in Hebrew, captivated me. With Ben Nathan's expertise, we expanded the vision to encompass Hebrew alongside Greek and Vietnamese scripts. The result? Polin Sans emerges as a historical odyssey through the realms of Polish modernism, crafted by minds steeped in diverse cultural heritages. Designed
